If you like Science Fiction and slasher movies, RUN (don’t walk) to see District 9. There is very little wrong with this movie. The acting is superb, the graphics are phenomenal, the CGI is spectacular but more importantly, the writing is absolutely amazing.
The plot of the movie provides pathos, excitement, and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. There is absolutely nothing complicated in the storytelling in this movie. You follow along as you are led. There aren’t any surprise plot twists to falsely ratchet the tension. In other words, this is an intelligently written and played movie—unlike some of the other summer blockbuster movies this year.
The documentary style of the movie is seamlessly interwoven into the live action of the movie and you are never lost because time is being kept for you on screen. The wonderful aspect of the writing is that the ending of the movie is foretold at the beginning but the viewer doesn’t know any of the details. By knowing the ending, the viewer can then watch the movie unafraid of movie tricks and gimmicks.
The movie is rated R for the blood and gore; if you are a little squeamish about these types of movies, you might want to forego seeing it. If you can tolerate such things, you owe it to yourself to see one of the best movies of this year.
I rate this movie zero watches.
