So I am a shallow gay man. I have to admit that I went to see The Proposal mainly because of Ryan Reynolds. The fact that he gets naked in the movie earned it an extra star (no frontal though, for all of you prudes out there).
Also, I am a big fan of Sandra Bullock comedies (including the Miss Congeniality series). I believe that she has great comic timing and the control over her body and face is amazing. I don't think that she really is appreciated enough for her comic chops.
What did surprise me was the comic timing of Ryan Reynolds. None of it was shown in X-men: Wolverine. Some of it was shown in Definitely, Maybe but in this movie, he is downright funny.
The movie is a chuckle-fest with a couple of guffaws thrown in. It definitely isn't a pee in your pants kind of funny. The story has been done before and you will figure out the ending quicker than Craig T. Nelson does (who by the way, needs to get out of the box he is getting typecast in--the angry adult father figure). Mary Steenburgen plays a convincing loving and doting mother. Betty White steals the movie though.
So, if you need a good date flick and want to go "Awww" at the end, see The Proposal.
