I don't think that the 3D animation was really all that necessary or more importantly, if it was worth the extra $3.50. Don't get me wrong, the animation is great. I just think that the 3D animation was all that spectacular. Those people that saw Coraline 3D seemed to enjoy it more than the Up 3D animation.
I also liked that I had a namesake in the movie. There aren't a lot of Russell characters in the movies. I don't know why--that's just the way it is.
The only negative that I have about the movie is the voice over of Ed Asner. Ed Asner has such a distinctive voice that you know immediately it is him speaking. Asner didn't use any other voice characterization or accent. Throughout the movie, I kept on seeing Ed Asner in my mind. I had just wished that he had used some accent or something to mask this voice.

I guess one should consider what age a PG movie is appropriate for. I really struggle with parents that ignore ratings; and as this was the first Pixar movie to ever be rated PG, you would think that would send a signal to parents that perhaps they should consider who would be appropriate to see it or not - all of the reviews have touched on the darker subject matter of the film so the information is out there.
ReplyDeletethe other side of that coin, children are spectacular at filtering information that they can handle subconsciously.
regarding the 3d; i don't think people should think of 3d the way it was back in the day - for me, it's less about things coming out at you and more about providing an amazing depth of field that truly immerses you in the film.
Up is a glorious achievement for animated storytelling and really pushes the envelope about what is possible in the genre. a throughly amazing film from start to finish.
