Day 134--Star Trek

I just saw the new Star Trek movie. I saw the movie in midtown at the beautiful Zigfeld Movie Theater. For those not in the know, the Zigfeld is one of the last full sized old fashioned movie theaters. Hollywood still comes to the Zigfeld for premieres. It has been refurbished to its old glory and you can picture people showing up in their minks and black tie attire to watch movie premieres.

Regarding Star Trek, I have to say that I have never seen a Star Trek movie. My only knowledge of Star Trek was the TV series and my older brother's Enterprise model that dangled from his bedroom ceiling.

I went to see the movie because I was having a bad day and needed to get away from the office. The Zigfeld is about two blocks away from my office and they were having a 3:45 pm showing.

The movie is absolutely brilliant. Everything about the movie works. The pacing, the backstory, the music, the dialogue, and the plot were entertaining. Also, it is a beautiful movie to watch. I was never bored throughout the movie. The movie isn't perfect but it nearly is.

So, for a non-Trekkie, I loved it. I don't know how the experience was for Trekkies but I HIGHLY recommend it. I will go and see it again at an IMAX theater.

I rate this movie-- zero watches.

  1. I finally figured out that there's an 'x' on the watch. I was wondering why you would show a watch and then say 'zero watches.' Well, ok.

I liked Star Trek too. Although I have to admit, as the Good Prince says, using the time travel plot devise is like, uh, what did he say again? Well, something about a cop out, and I agree. But it was a fun movie. But then again, I liked Wolverine too.

  2. I agree that it was rather convenient. Like I said, it wasn't a perfect movie but it was certainly entertaining.

  3. I loved it. I had a blast seeing it. Not a Star Trek fan at all but really got into what they were trying to do. The bowels of the Enterprise still look like a brewery with a few Mac's set up here and there (filmed in a brewery). I loved the awkwardness of the green crew. Hope they make more, and hope JJ Abrams is involved.
