Day 115--Knowing

Well, to make up for all of the television shows and baseball games that I have been missing, I decided to catch up on all of the big screen movies.

After seeing Nicholas Cage’s Knowing, I have two questions: (1) How do some movie stars decide to make a movie and (2) Do people ever get tired of smashing up NYC?

Why Nicolas Cage would decide to be in such a piece of crap movie is beyond my stream of consciousness. Normally a great actor, his acting in this particular movie is simply awful. There is no other polite word for it without being cast in the Adult Content section of Google. There are many times he is left alone on the screen (the full size movie screen, no less) to emote. Yep, no words, no action, just a big Nicolas Cage face on the giant screen showing a face doing nothing else but brooding.

The plot of the movie—well, I don’t want to say anything because after you read the premise of the movie, there would be absolutely no reason to see it. You see—the plot is so simplistic, you can figure it out within fifteen minutes from the start. Well, maybe twenty five minutes, if you go to the restroom.

As for the second question, why do movie directors still enjoy blowing up New York City? Don’t people get tired of seeing NYC getting its demise in the movies? I would think that after 9-11 there would be a moratorium on blowing up NYC—I guess not. Why not Boston? Or San Francisco? Or Miami? I still cringe when I see NYC the victim of an assault—even if it is make believe. It’s funny; before 9-11, I would watch movies about NYC to see if I could recognize where the scenes were being filmed or if I could name the buildings in the background. After 9-11, I just cringe. Come on directors, give NYC a break.

  1. I really REALLY wish someone would focus on blowing up Nick Cage instead. Uggh, I can't stand him.
